The beginning - how a 10-year-old fell in love with crochet

Hi there! This is my very first blog post, and I am so excited to hit "publish".

I remember when I was about 10, my grandma made vests for everyone in the family. Those vests were knitted, with a crochet row around the edge to prevent them from curling up at the corners. I didn't pay much attention to it at the time.

Then, a couple of years later, my dad bought some vintage craft magazines from the flea market. There were all kinds of crafts in those magazines, but most importantly, there were a lot of crochet patterns. I was stunned and instantly fell in love with them.

My grandma taught me the single pattern she knew—the basics: chains, single crochets, and double crochets. Then I taught myself the rest from the magazines. Luckily, there was a series of articles on the basics. There was a lot of trial and error involved.

One of my first finished projects was my black scarf, which is still in use today. With the knowledge I have now, I would not recommend someone start with thin black yarn and a complicated pattern! When I look back, I am surprised at how dedicated I was and that I managed to finish it—though it took me the entire winter school holiday and has many mistakes. I was just happy to put my hands on some yarn. I think it is still beautiful, and I still love it.

That is a little peek into my world. I cannot wait to share my very first free pattern with you—sign up for my email list to get instant access. Now I'd love to know—what drew you to crochet? Drop a comment below and let's chat!
